Point-and-Click Adventure
A Deceptive Games Ltd. Release · Jul 28, 2016
A traditional point-and-click comedy adventure in which a mismatched group of monsters travels through time to stop an evil genius.
The Secret Monster Society is a classic-style point-and-click comedy adventure from Deceptive Games Ltd, openly inspired by the Saturday-morning cartoons and LucasArts adventures the team grew up on. Players follow an unlikely band of monsters as they travel across land, sea and time to stop a scheming villain whose plans threaten their world.
Gameplay sticks to traditional adventure-game fundamentals: explore hand-drawn locations, talk to a large cast of oddball characters, collect items, and combine them to solve puzzles. Time-travel sequences shift the same environments across different eras, allowing earlier actions to affect later ones in playful, cause-and-effect ways.
Visually, the game leans into a bold, cartoonish art style with character designs and humour pitched as much at lapsed adventure fans as at younger players. It is a deliberate change of tone from the studio's darker projects, showcasing Deceptive Games' range across genres.

The Secret Monster Society was Deceptive Games' love letter to the classic LucasArts adventures of the 90s, and the studio's first commercial Steam release ahead of its later horror and puzzle catalogue.
"The Secret Monster Society is the game we always wanted to make as kids — a proper point-and-click adventure with terrible jokes, weird characters, and puzzles that reward you for paying attention."
— Gavin Powell, Managing Director & Game Director
"Going fully hand-drawn was the whole point. Every monster, prop and background was designed to feel like a Saturday-morning cartoon you'd swear you remembered from childhood."
— Filipe Sabino, Art Director

Deceptive Games Ltd is a two-person independent studio based at Navigation Park in South Wales. By keeping the team deliberately small — a Managing Director and an Art Director, both senior, both hands-on — every game is shipped without committee, with two experienced developers responsible for every decision on screen.
