Cooperative Escape
A Deceptive Games Ltd. Release · Oct 16, 2018
Three strangers wake in adjoining cells with no memory of how they got there — and must cooperate to escape a captor who is always watching.
The Initiate 2: The First Interviews is the direct follow-up to Deceptive Games' 2017 mystery puzzler The Initiate. Set within the same universe, the sequel widens the scope from a single house to an interconnected facility where three captives wake in adjacent prison cells with no memory of how they arrived.
Players move between the three protagonists, solving environmental puzzles, sharing items through hatches and gaps, and piecing together the rules of the test from notes, recordings and staged set-pieces. Trust between the three becomes a mechanic as much as a theme: progress depends on cooperation, even as the story raises doubts about who can really be relied on.
The game retains the original's tight, single-player pacing while adding a stronger narrative spine, voiced characters and a more varied range of puzzle types. It expands the wider Initiate storyline first hinted at in the original release.

Following the reception of The Initiate, Deceptive Games returned to the universe in 2018 to expand the world's lore and push its puzzle design further with multiple protagonists and a larger, interconnected location.
"With three captives instead of one, the design problem changed completely. The Initiate 2 is about cooperation under pressure — and quietly asking the player whether the people next to you are really on your side."
— Gavin Powell, Managing Director & Game Director
"Building a connected facility instead of a single house meant every space had to feel deliberately engineered — built to be observed, not just walked through."
— Filipe Sabino, Art Director

Deceptive Games Ltd is a two-person independent studio based at Navigation Park in South Wales. By keeping the team deliberately small — a Managing Director and an Art Director, both senior, both hands-on — every game is shipped without committee, with two experienced developers responsible for every decision on screen.
